Grimsby Lightning won the Chris Hood Memorial Trophy for the first time, with a 10-8 victory against Kingston Cobras.

Grimsby, keen to avenge last years 12-6 defeat in the inaugural memorial game and came out all guns blazing in order to do so.

First Period

The first period was one to forget for the Cobras and would ultimately set them up for the defeat that followed.

Lightning took the lead with 3.18 on the clock through Mark Cullum, five minutes later and Cobras were 5-0 down following goals from Mark Turner (2) and John Belt (2).

Alan Hague got the Cobras off the mark with a shorthanded effort straight off a face off at 15.37. However Grimsby responded instantaneously scoring on the powerplay twenty seconds later at 15.57 leaving the first period score 6-1 in favour of Grimsby.
