Dumfries Tournament 2010
Posted on: March 30, 2010 by admin
Kingston Cobras defense of the Dumfries Spring Tournament ended in the group stage following a lackluster weekend.
Saturday
Cobras’ opened the tournament against the host Dumfries Demons with a convincing 3-0 victory. Unfortunately for Kingston this would prove to be the highlight of the day as defeats to following against Edinburgh Knights (1-5), Altrincham Blackbears (0-4) and Irving Flyers (0-4). Leaving the reigning champions record on the first day at 1-3.
Sunday
Realistically needing to win both games to avoid being knocked out, Cobras faced an uphill task following a 2-1 reverse against Ayr Jets. In the final game group stage game Cobras faced local rivals Grimsby Lightning, who had also had a difficult weekend.
Cobras rounded the weekend off with a 4-0 victory, meaning the needed other results to go their way in order to progress. Alas it was not to be and the title holders were out before the quarter final stage.
Notes
Congratulations to Edinburgh Knights who ended up taking the title, beating Altrincham in the final. Kingston Cobras committee and players, would like to thank Dumfries Demons for once again holding a well organised tournament.
