Posted on: February 23, 2010 by admin
Kingston Cobras started the 2010 season with a convincing 10 – 3 victory over the Peterborough Eagles in the John Dale Remembrance game.
First Period
The game started at a frantic pace with Kingston missing two clear chances within the opening thirty seconds before Peterborough scored the opener with just under a minute on the clock.
Liam Sewell scored the first of the season for the Cobras less than one minute later, with assists from Hogarth and Barrett. Further goals followed from Alan Hague and Kristian Otolz to put the Cobras 3-1 up with less than five minutes on the clock.
On the ten minute mark Andy Ward opened his account for the season with a shorthanded goal assisted by Gary Embrie.

Second Period
Kingston added their fifth goal within 30 seconds of the second period starting with Andy Ward putting away his second goal of the night. Liam Sewell further extended the Cobras lead at 22.36 on a feed from Otolz and Hague.
Peterborough pulled a goal back shortly after on 24.02 with Steve Percival credited with the goal after Adam Thompson inadvertently put the puck past John Staniforth after Percival’s original shot.
That completed the scoring for the second period but the action wasn’t over on 30.50 the gloves were off as Wilson and Sokol squared off in an almost comedic slugfest, both players picking up 2+2+10 for their efforts.
Shots on goal:
Staniforth (Kingston) – 9 Shots
Mikysa (Peterborough) – 21 Shots

Third Period
The third period started with a bang….literally, Chris Bailey returning to the Cobras line up after a yearlong injury hiatus took exception to a cheap hit from behind from Eagles Kolar. The gloves were off, however the action was over before it began with Kolar unwilling to follow up his earlier action. Both players were awarded match penalties forty seconds into the period.
Peterborough opened the scoring in the third on a nice spin-a-rama effort from Vincur at 44.17. Cobras replied twenty seconds later with captain Gary Embrie picking up his first of the season, assisted by Daintith and Ward. Cobras rounded the game off with three goals in a two minute spell, Liam Sewell picked up his hat trick goal shorthanded at 48.04, Matt ‘Jesus’ Borat scored on his debut at 49.38 and fellow debutant Kristian Otolz added his second of the night at 50.39.
