After five years of trying Kingston Cobras finally won their annual tournament, beating local rivals Grimsby Lightning 7-2 in the final.
Coach and tournament organiser Andy Daintith: “The tournament was a great success, the implementation of Jonkers Rules worked extremly well with teams quickly adapting to the new rules. From a playing point of view it was great for the team to finally win the tournament after years of trying. It was always going to be tough having to play back to back games, especially against Dumfries and Grimsby but the lads dug deep and got what they deserved in the end.”
On behalf of the Kingston Cobras players and committee we would like to thank all the teams, referees, off-ice officials and Hull Arena staff for making the weekend a special one for everybody involved.

The Kingston Tournament will take place this weekend at Hull Arena. This year will mark the fifth anniversary of the competition. BBC Humber have kindly written an article on the tournament, which can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/humber/content/articles/2008/05/23/kingston_cobras_feature.shtml

Kingston Cobras has a mixed weekend up in Scotland for the Dumfries Spring Tournament. Things got off to the worst possible start, when tournament hosts Dumfries handed the (hungover) Cobras a 6-1 defeat in their opening game.
However the Cobra’s came back with a close 3-2 victory over local rivals and defending champions Grimsby Lightning in game 2. Game 3 saw Cobra’s slip up again losing 2-1 to Newcastle Coyotes in a scrappy game.
The final game off day one saw Cobra’s return to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Paisley. This result left the Cobras in 3rd place with 4 points after day 1.
Sunday mornings first game on paper looked a tricky game for the Cobras facing an Edinburgh side who had not been beaten by more than 2 goals so far in the tournament. However the Cobra’s produced their best performance of the weekend, handing out a 6-0 spanking. The victory ensured the Cobra’s place in the semi-finals. The final group game saw the Cobra’s face the unbeaten Ayr Jets. Kingston looked tired however managed to limit the free scoring Jets to 3 goals in a 3-0 loss.
And so onto the semi-finals, following Newcastle taking a point off Dumfries in their final game, the Cobra’s would once again face the Ayr Jets. Despite some great defensive play from the Cobra’s the puck just wouldn’t bounce their way in the offensive zone, leading to the Cobras falling to a 3-2 loss.
A big thank you to Dumfries on hosting the tournament and congratulations to Ayr for winning it. See you next year.
